When a Doctor has decided you should have a repeat prescription, the details will be entered onto the Practice computer. This will allow you to obtain a repeat prescription from the receptionist until the Doctor wishes to see you again.
Repeat prescription requests must be in writing. Prescriptions should be ordered by ticking next to the medicines you require on the repeat back slip (this is the other half of your prescription which you tear off) and posting this into the letter box provided at reception. A post box is provided outside of the shutter at Peterlee Health Centre for patients who wish to call in early morning or over lunchtimes. Alternatively, you may post the request with a SAE, or fax the request to us.
Your prescription will be ready for collection in 48 hrs (please allow for weekends). This allows us time to process your repeat prescription safely.
For Patients who are housebound, or have mobility problems, we offer a telephone request service Monday-Friday: Horden - 9.30am-12.00pm Peterlee - 9.30am-12.00pm

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
Prescription (per item): £8.40*
12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00*
3-month PPC: £29.10*
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
